Having only celebrated my first Christmas just this year, I was never aware of the high flammability of Christmas trees. I guess one wouldn’t need to celebrate the holiday to know this, however, in my case, I didn’t get no presents and I didn’t know those things burned up to the heavens when you struck a match to them. Thanks to Criminal Hygiene for having three dried out Christmas trees laying in their front yard when we came to film there (PS. I thought you guys were Jewish), because now I know.

Everyone gives daylight savings time a bad rap, because it gets dark so early, and yes that’s obviously a bummer, because your mom calls you inside and you can’t see the ball anymore, but on the other hand, the freaks come out at night, and Christmas trees burn better in the dark. All things burn better in the dark really. Rock and Roll being one of those things. Imagine now, it being dark, and a Christmas tree burning while Rock and Roll was burning inside of a Jam Van? Are you picturing how superb of a spectacle that might be? Now, we don’t advocate playing with fire unsupervised, but under the right conditions, with the proper musicians, well, a Christmas tree fire can be an exceptionally magical occurrence. It just so happened that this group of long hairs, The Blank Tapes, were very up to the task of playing the soundtrack to a towering flame. A hard act to follow no doubt. Which is why I suppose the Criminal Hygiene boys had three trees… Keep on burnin’…
